Thoughts and notes

29 October 2018

Article in the Dundee Courier today about the recent graduation and Dundee.

I also attended a talk about Scotland's heritage of bridge building by Bruce Keith, the author of Bridgescapes. I never cease to be amazed at the engineering talents of fellow Scots over the generations and will study this subject further. I am sure I am not the only one who finds bridges (and lighthouses) inspiring!

After a first working season as full Blue Badge guides (following work in 2017 as student guides), the official graduation ceremony was held in October 2018 in the Burgh Halls in Linlithgow with the STGA Chair, members of the Board and Training Team and the Duke of Argyll who formally handed out the certificates. This was a chance for family members who have supported 31 new Blue Badge guides through their studies to participate in the final formal event of the intensive process involved in gaining the qualification. Great to be back together again and great to hear the Duke's upbeat assessment of the future of the Scottish tourism industry. We all continue to share information and liaise to keep up to date with developments and ensure we offer our clients the best possible service.

Its been a whirlwind year and here we are in May already!

The winter is finally passing and spring flowers abound. Summer is promised and the tourist attractions have opened their doors, the cruise ships are making their way to Scotland and I am looking forward to an exciting new season of guiding and making new friends to welcome to Scotland!

I have already conducted coach tours around the City of Dundee, to Glamis Castle, Edinburgh and St. Andrews, and introduced some German visitors to the Dundee Waterfront Development with support from Dundee Council staff.

I am full of anticipation and looking forward to a great season ahead.
